Location, Transportation & Safety
Where are your vacation rentals located?
All our properties are located in central Playa del Carmen, close to the beach, 5th Avenue, restaurants, cafés, and grocery stores.
When viewing any listing on our website, you’ll see a map showing the exact location, so you can easily check how close it is to your favorite spots.
What airport should I fly into to get to Playa del Carmen?
We recommend flying into Cancún International Airport (CUN), which is the main international hub in the region and offers the most frequent flight options.
The drive from Cancún to Playa del Carmen takes about 45 to 50 minutes.
There is also a new airport near Tulum (Tulum International Airport – TQO), which is still growing in connectivity. From there, the drive to Playa del Carmen takes approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes.
Does Riviera Vacation Home offer airport transportation for guests?
Yes. We offer a private taxi service exclusively for guests arriving at Cancún International Airport (CUN).
You can add this service during checkout, or request it after booking by contacting us via WhatsApp.
We’ll coordinate everything based on your flight details so your driver is ready when you land.
Please note: We do not currently offer transportation from Tulum Airport (TQO).
What’s the best way to get around in Playa del Carmen?
Playa del Carmen is a very walkable city—most beaches, restaurants, grocery stores, and attractions are within walking distance from our rentals.
Here are the main transportation options:
- Taxis: Easy to find on the street, via Radio Taxi Playa del Carmen (WhatsApp), or with the InDrive app.
- Colectivos: Shared vans offering affordable transportation between nearby towns like Tulum.
- ADO Bus: Travel to other cities like Cancún, Mérida or Campeche, or the airport. There are two terminals:
- Turística Terminal – On 5th Avenue (great for airport trips)
- Alterna Terminal – 20th Avenue and 12th Street
Is Playa del Carmen safe for travelers?
Yes. Playa del Carmen is one of the most visited destinations in Mexico and generally considered safe for tourists.
As in any city, we recommend taking basic precautions: avoid isolated areas late at night, keep valuables secured, and use trusted transportation.
Our properties are located in central and well-connected neighborhoods, and we’re always available if you need support.
What time zone is Playa del Carmen in?
Playa del Carmen is in the Eastern Standard Time Zone (EST/UTC-5), and does not observe daylight saving time.
This means it’s often the same time as cities like New York, Miami, or Toronto during winter, but one hour behind during summer months.
We’ll include the local time in your check-in email so you can plan your arrival easily.
